Rooney recently appeared on the podcast The Overlap and talked about Manchester United's poor signings.
Rooney said: "Manchester United's recruitment work before this summer was very bad. They only introduced big-name players at that time. You look at Lukaku, Ibrahimovic, and Pogba. They are all excellent players, but the club just blindly introduced well-known players and squandered huge sums of money. It will take some time to digest these mistakes."
Rooney believes that his old club is now showing positive signs: "Looking back at Manchester United's situation in the past ten years, the players have indeed suffered. They have had some good results now and you can see that the confidence is gradually returning."
"Even the manager is gradually improving and has made some progress. It is very difficult for Amorim, I have criticized him, but we do see improvement and the understanding between the players is getting better. These are encouraging signs. Although they cannot win the league, they may be able to sneak into the top four."
