Before the Leeds United vs. Everton, Sky Sports commentator and Manchester United legend Gary Neville said that he did not want to get close to the Leeds United fan group.
Gary Neville encountered the embarrassing moment when the microphone was off in the first episode of "Monday Football Night" of this season. When Sky Sports cut back from the advertising period, the commentator's comments on Leeds United fans were included throughout the process.
When Neville was conducting pre-match analysis with Carragher and host David Jones, the TV station entered advertising time as usual. When the live screen resumes, the studio's large screen is playing fans before the season opener of Leeds United vs. Everton. Neville, who had not realized that it had been re-spread, was caught by the microphone and commented: "This group of fans is the last thing I want to get close to." When the camera turned to the studio, Jones could be seen slapping Neville at the hurried slap Neville to signal that it was being broadcast live, but Neville insisted on saying the whole sentence, and then the three burst into laughter. Neville then nervously confirmed to the audience, "Did you hear it?", and then repeated his remarks. Jones then apologized and smoothed out that Leeds fans didn't want to get close to Neville.
Before the live broadcast signal officially entered the game, Neville and Carragher could still be heard in the background sound. Ironically, Neville had just praised Leeds United for having the best atmosphere and fan culture in the UK earlier.
This is a rare appearance in Neville on Monday Night Football, usually with Jones and Carragher as a special guest every week, which has previously been in the role of Henry, Ali and Thomas Frank. Leeds United returned to the Premier League for the first time since 2023, and they won the English Championship with a 100-point record last season.
Nevil, who played for Manchester United for life, had previously angered Leeds fans. He predicted the newly promoted team will be relegated by lightning in the Stick to Football podcast, which is a tit-for-tat view of Ian Wright and Carragher breaking the relegation curse of the champions.
