Ajax officially announced that Henderson and the club terminated the contract early.

Ajax issued an announcement confirming that 35-year-old England midfielder Henderson voluntarily applied for termination of the contract and reached an agreement with the club (the contract expires in 2026) and left the team freely.

Henderson said: "I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the people involved in Ajax for giving me the opportunity to represent this great club in the past few years. Playing for this club is an honor in itself, and it is even more so that it is fortunate to be the captain. My only regret is that we have failed to bring more success to these amazing fans. They deserve to celebrate the major championship again, and I believe this moment will come soon."

"My family and my welcome, not only from the club, but also from the wonderful city of Amsterdam, are forever grateful for this. Due to what happened last week I feel that I am not suitable to say or do more at this moment, and I just want to make this short statement. However, I am very clear that I owe this club, my teammates and fans a more complete and personal thanks. Of course, I will express this thanks at a more suitable time. Now, I want to express my gratitude to Ajax and everyone I failed to talk to personally yesterday, thank you for making this club so special. "

Henderson joined Ajax without a sign-off last January, and has played in 57 games since joining, scoring 1 goal and assisting 9 times.
